NAI YAE BEACH
|
There is a sign at the entrance saying that no food or drinks are allowed to be brought from outside.
The staff at the beach club take this ban seriously.
After paying for sunbeds and eating at the restaurant I was bothered by one of the beach club staff since I had taken a few cold Bacardi Breezer's with me.
This has never happened to me before.
Not on Freedom or any other "private beach" in Phuket.
And If I have a good time I always end up spending lots of money at the beach anyway.
But after ordering cocktails after cocktails at the beach club, she said sorry.
She thought I was not going to spend any money in the bar.
To get here drive north to Thavorn Beach Village and Spa in Nakalay and just before the very steep hill to Kamala take the road to the left up another even steeper hill and drive 1,3 km. Then take the dirt road to the right down to the beach where you park.
Nai Yae Beach has yet to be developed into a resort. But with the newly paved public road it is only a question of time before a resort pop up here.
The paved road make it easier to drive to the beach. But the road is very steep. We could not drive up the hill on our motorbike since I was too heavy! I had to walk while my girlfriend was waiting for me on the top. And it was a hot day in January. Next time we take a taxi!
At the moment only a small restaurant and a beach club has been build since my last visit February 2008. Then only the birds was singing at one of the most peacefully beaches in Phuket.
Now the beach club with their loudspeakers do what they can to drive away tourists seeking a quiet beach away from crowded Patong. But even if I hate loudspeakers on the beach I love that we have the beach almost for oneself in high season!
A nice break from crowded Patong Beach.
The beach club is where you rent one of the 20 or so sunbeds and this is my favorite part of the beach. Here I can order drinks while playing billiards bar feet in the soft sand with the cute staff. And if hungry food can be ordered from the nearby restaurant to be delivered at the beach club.
After drinking so many cocktails soon or later we all need to go to the toilet. Then it is good to know that standalone western toilets are to be found at the back of the beach club.
Since Nai Yae is not yet on the tourist map not many tourists find their way here, even if it's close to the crowded Patong Beach, that can be seen from part of Nai Yae Beach. At last visit I saw no more than 10 people in the whole day.
Nai Yae is not a good place to swim with its rocky sea bottom and swimming is not possible at low tide. One have to wait for high tide or walk 70 meters on the rocky seabed before reaching deeper water. Take a look at my photosynth to see the difference between low and high tide.
The beach club staff take good care of their customers. At the end of the day one of the staff drove me on his motorbike so I should not have to walk the 300 meters up to the main road.
