NAI KANG BEACH
Length : 700 meters
Location: Take the road up the hill at the southern end of Patong Beach and follow it 3 km View map in Google Earth |
The tsunami caused great damage to Nai Kang beach with many uprooted trees and for several months nothing was done here.
But since then the Thai people have worked hard to clean up the beach and it now look nicer than ever!
When driving from Patong the first you will see is a sign to Tri Trang Beach Resort. You can either chose to drive down to the beach from here or continue 500 meters past Merlin Beach Resort.
Park your bike next to the popular restaurant that serve great but little bit expensive Thai food.
Walk down to the picturesque beach fringed with casuarina and palm trees, rent a sunbed and relax on a sparsely populated beach in stark contrast to the crowded Patong Beach which is visible in the distance.
Unfortunately, it's not so good for swimming because most of the bay is very shallow with small corals scattered about. Check the tide table at www.phuketgazette.net. When I stay here swimming is not an option for me, unlike others who don't mind to go for a swim in the shallow and sometimes smelly water.
Facing north, the beach don't have direct sunlight, a fact some people love and others hate.
