KAMALA BEACH
|
Kamala is mostly for families who want to stay close to a good beach that is not so developed for tourists as Patong, Karon and Kata to the south.
Most of the tourist restaurants and bars is located in a small compact area along the southern part of the beach. Here will you find lots of tailor shops, restaurants, bars, diving shops, massage shop, guest house's and a 7-Eleven.
Popular Kamala Beach Hotel sitting next to the beach is in walking distance to the main tourist area.
Kamala is not my favorite beach. I seldom stop here since there are so many other beaches in Phuket to choice from. But I will still say that Kamala is a good place to stay for families who want a relaxed vacation without the need for an action packed nightlife scene. And the hectic nightlife of Patong is only 10-15 minutes drive to the south.
My preferred part of the beach is at the quiet north end where casuarinas trees line the beach next to an Islamic cemetery. It looks like the sea is clearer here than at the main tourist area to the south. This part of the beach is popular among guests from Kamala Bay Garden Resort located 400 hundred meters from the beach at the wrong side of the main road cutting through Kamala.
Even with sunbeds lining Kamala Beach it is never packed, unlike neighbor Surin Beach to the north.
Kamala valley is a popular residential area for expats.
In the evening hordes of mini-vans bring tourists to Kamala to see the famous show at Phuket Fantasea - The Ultimate Nighttime Cultural Theme Park.
Kamala that was hit hardest by the tsunami in Phuket has recovered fully!
